Nijkerk is located in the far west of the province, west of the Veluwe landscape and only about 11 km northeast of Amersfoort (Province of Utrecht). The A28 Utrecht - Amersfoort - Zwolle highway runs alongside Nijkerk.

The old church (Grote Kerk) in the center of Nijkerk is one of the few buildings from before 1800 that have been preserved there.

The Arkemheen polder is a bird sanctuary. It is home to the Arkemheen steam pumping station (“stoomgemaal”) from the 19th century, which can be visited in summer.

The Salentein country estate, on the eastern edge of Nijkerk, is now a luxury restaurant known throughout the country for its wines from Argentina.
