Vlotburg in pictures: From Amersfoort to the story of Knight Lenny
Two special video reports showcase Vlotburg both as a day-out destination for the whole family and as the life’s work of Sir Lenny Vries.
Spotlight on the Vlotburg: a castle, a ship and a life story
The Vlotburg doesn’t just captivate visitors on the quay. Stories about the floating castle also reach many people online. Two video reports each show a different side of the museum ship.
On 24 September 2025, Indebuurt Amersfoort published a video tour of the Vlotburg. The central question was simple and to the point: is it a castle or a boat after all? In the report, videographer Nese van de Wiel took a look inside the 50-metre-long vessel. The reactions emphasised above all how entertaining and surprising the museum can be for children.
On 2 June 2026, Pieter Busman published a more personal profile entitled ‘Why Lenny lives like a knight’. It focuses not only on the ship, but above all on the man behind the castle. In the comments, Lenny is described as inspiring, extraordinary and suited to his own TV programme.
A story that touches people’s hearts
This combination explains the Vlotburg’s appeal. For families, it is an adventurous museum full of knights, traditional crafts and surprising scenes. At the same time, it is the life’s work of a man who has turned a childhood dream into a real floating castle.
Now that the Vlotburg is temporarily moored at the shipyard, this story is entering a new chapter. The maintenance work demonstrates just how much care is needed to preserve the museum ship so that it can welcome visitors again in the future.
